After the success of her traditional rendering Ballad Book compilation, Vanguard followed up by compiling The Contemporary Ballad Book. She sang songs of Dylan, Guthrie, and Farina with unmatched grace. "It Ain't Me Babe," "Birmingham Sunday," and "Be Not Too Hard" give an aesthetic touch to the album, while the Italian number "C'Era Un Ragazzo Che Come Me Amava" adds that extra charm which signifies Joan Baez's presence.
