凱特·斯蒂文斯是英國民謠搖滾的代表人物，1947年7月21日生于倫敦，原名史蒂文·喬治烏（Steven Georgiou）。當他成為一名國際明星之后，于1979年皈依宗教并放棄了他的音樂事業。60年代中期，斯蒂文斯在哈默史密斯大學期間就開始自己創作歌曲并于1966年以一首《我喜歡我的狗》（I Love My Dog）走紅。1968年，斯蒂文斯感染了肺結核，這迫使他暫時停止了音樂生涯。1970年，他以專輯《Mona Bone Jakon》重返樂壇，并受到一致好評，其中還產生了一首熱門歌曲《德，阿班維爾太太》（Lady D'Arbanville）。以后，他繼續推出專輯《舵手的茶葉》（Tea of the Tillerman，1971）、《數字》（Numbers，1975），《Izitso》（1977）和《回到地球》（Back to Earth，1978）均獲得一定的成績。
