Jim Fairchild is an American singer songwriter born in Fresno, California. He currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois under the name All Smiles.
He moved to Modesto, California at the age of 2, where he lived and played guitar in the band Grandaddy until their breakup in 2006[citation needed]. He lived briefly in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, where he began to work under the name All Smiles, and played one tour, as the guitarist in Modest Mouse. In 2006 he moved to Chicago, and released his first solo album and seven inch as All Smiles. Band members on Ten Reading of a Warning include Janet Weiss (Sleater Kinney, Quasi), Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse, Black Heart Procession, Magic Magicians), Danny Seim (Lack Therof, Menomena) , and Solon Bixler (Great Northern).The album art for Ten Readings of a Warning and Moth in a Cloud of Smoke seven inch, was done by artist Natasha Wheat.
