Nevermind is the second and breakthough studio album by the iconic American grunge band Nirvana. The band's major label debut, it was released on September 24, 1991 on Geffen Records. Nevermind was a surprise success when it was released in the fall 1991; by January 1992 it had knocked Michael Jackson's album Dangerous out of the top spot on the Billboard charts.
Nevermind not only popularized the Seattle grunge movement, but brought alternative rock as a whole into the mainstream, establishing its commercial and cultural viability. Nevermind has sold approximately 10 million copies in the United States, and over 26 million copies worldwide. It has been regarded as one of the greatest albums to ever be released.
