The traditional music of Korea has only recently been discovered in the West. This ensemble, gathered from the most renowned soloists from the best universities and music schools, employs a full range of traditional instruments to unfold a rich panoply of Korean musical culture in their renditions of solo and ensemble pieces. The delicate sounds of zithers and bamboo flutes clash with dynamic blasts from bamboo oboes, hourglass drums and gongs to form dense jazz-like improvisations which are, in fact, closely linked to traditional shaman ceremonies. These selections are played with such technical brilliance and expressiveness that they will undoubtedly appeal to even the most untrained ear.
