Feist本名Leslie Feist，她于1976年出生在加拿大的一個寧靜小城卡爾加利，自幼喜歡音樂，后來她便用自己的姓氏Feist給自己取了這樣一個藝名。起初先是在高中，她和幾個同樣喜歡搖滾樂的朋友組建了一支朋克樂隊——Placebo，有意思的是這和現在英國十分走紅的那支朋克樂隊有著相同的名字。后來Feist率領她的樂隊在當地一系列的搖滾比賽中取得了優勝，小有名氣的他們后來成為了The Ramones在加拿大演出的開場樂隊。也就是在這個時候，Feist選擇了音樂作為畢生的事業，她開始艱苦而毫無希望可言的生活，在之后的五年中，Feist開始在加拿大的各個地方演出，也正是這個時候，她結交了很多有名的音樂人士?？墒钦擣eist準備有更進一步的發展之時，她的嗓子卻因為莫名的疾病不能發聲了，面對這個打擊Feist幾乎放棄了她的音樂生涯。后來她四處尋醫，終于在多倫多找到了一位醫生治好了她的病，于是她決定離開家鄉卡爾加利搬來多倫多開始全新的生活。在多倫多租來的小小的寢室中，她開始用一臺破舊的四軌機為自己錄音，此時她所演繹的音樂已經有了很多的改變。一把吉他，還有簡單的歌聲，這就是來自Feist的新嘗試，做一個民謠歌手。 后來Feist加入了當地的By Divine Right樂隊并且開始逐漸被更多的人知道，她和樂隊為加拿大老牌搖滾樂隊The Tragically Hip做北美巡演嘉賓。在1999年她錄制了第一張屬于自己的專輯《Monarch (Lay Down Your Jeweled Head)》，清新的民謠歌曲，仿佛重獲新生。2000年，她幫助Peaches制作了專輯《Teaches of Peaches》；兩年之后她又加入了By Divine Right的后身樂團——后搖滾風格的Broken Social Scene，并且憑借專輯《You Forgot It in People》一鳴驚人。2004年的《Let It Die》是Feist精心打造的一張清新民謠風格的專輯，其中包括了她翻唱自本國民謠歌手Sexsmith以及Bee Gees的歌曲。
